The Project was initiated by three stakeholders; Kenya Railways, Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development and Nairobi City County to redevelop the Nairobi Central Station and its surrounding area to a new iconic place. The development is to include multimodal transportations in the expanded Central Business District area called “Nairobi Railway City”.
The Kenya Railways, the owner of the most of the project land, has prepared several plans already to regenerate and redevelop areas next to its railway stations especially in Nairobi, Mombasa and Kisumu.
The Directorate of Urban and Metropolitan Development under Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development has the mandate to formulate and administer policy in respect to Nairobi Metropolitan Region to provide world-class services for the residents of the region.
The City County of Nairobi has prepared the Nairobi Integrated Urban Development Masterplan (NIUPLAN) which will guide the development of the project site and will be the approving organization of the final plan for the Project.
